Having a wonderful time

CopCar and Stu have both blogged about big butterflies so, not to be outdone, here's the biggest moth I've ever seen. It was in the dining room on our small cruise boat in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. My photo isn't very good but it was big and it stayed motionless for ages.

Of course then I got carried away looking at photos from that wonderful holiday in 2015.

Who could forget the wiring?

Or the delivery drivers?

Not to mention the heat and humidity?

There's our world traveler! I'm glad that you took the opportunity for your vacation, but a place known for heat and humidity would be my last choice - lol.

P.S. To be precise, Stu posted a photo of a humongous moth while my photo was of a butterfly. As you probably know, they are both of the order Lepidoptera. To my mind, the largest difference is that moths spin and emerge from silky cocoons while butterflies form and emerge from shell-like chrysalides.

Any moths freak me right out. That big one would have killed me stone dead. As would the heat of Southeast Asia. I'm obviously too wussy for that part of the world!

I can't quite get into Vietnam as a vacation spot, having grown up with it as a warzone, IndoChina, my French penpals reporting on their relatives fighting there, then the Viet Cong and the American conflict. I'm told it's beautiful though hot, so there's that.

Younger Son and his wife had set up their environmental project in the Perhentian islands in Malaysia so we took the opportunity to visit Vietnam at the same time. It is glorious.

The huge moth I showed you all is an Atlas Silkspinner native to Malaysia.
