Books and Queer Eye

So I find myself Covid positive.

I had a croaky cough so tested to be safe not expecting it to be positive. I am up to date with vaccines so I hope it will be mild. Psychosomatically though I already feel worse just because I know it's Covid.

I have felt obliged to sit on the sofa and binge-watch Queer Eye while sending Husband out for more medication.

And I shall probably be reading a lot. My recent reads have been mixed.

To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han. 4*

A YA book that I read because it's GrandDaughter1's favourite. It's well-written and very enjoyable.

In A Summer Season by Elizabeth Taylor. 3.5*

A Virago classic in which very well-drawn characters do nothing. I wonder if it would be published today if a new writer proposed it. Elizabeth Taylor is very highly regarded but I need a bit more life.

A Terrible Kindness by Jo Browning Wroe. 4*

A recent highly-praised book. It did make me cry towards the end but I can't say I really took to any of the characters. The main character had it tough but still couldn't warm to him. Maybe he was just too human.

The Godmothers by Monica Mcinery. 5*

Just the right book at just the right time. Light, easy-reading, ticked all the boxes for sitting in the sun relaxing.

I love the Elizabeth Taylor review! She's definitely not an exciting read, yes. Other virtues though. I sometimes wonder how many people over the years have jumped on her books expecting a tell-all from the other E.the movie star..
