It gets worse.
I was about to pay the customs duty when I thought I'd better read all the form carefully. It seems the 30 euros duty is just on three chocolate advent calendars, value £10 in all.
Customs duty 30 euros
Admin 18 euros
Total 48 euros

Excuse me while I go and lie down.

So outrageous! I guess the moral of this story is just send money to the parents in Italy and get them to buy the stuff there!
I'm afraid that's the way it will be in future, Debra.
One of the fallouts of the B word. Yes, not fun for you to send money instead of the fun of shopping and sending. Sigh. Oh well.
This was Boris' version of free trade.
I knew this would happen but apparently we're better off not being in the EU. I'm lost some suppliers I used to buy from are refusing to ship to UK as it is too much hassle for a small one man type operation. Grrrr
Welcome to the sunny uplands of Brexit!
Thrre choclolates,maybe.
But you imported 3*365 dates ;-)
Tell them they can eat them - only one a day mind.
OUCH! Do you have the same problem if you order from an Italian company?
That's robbery, it only costs me about £20 flat fee to send goody boxes to my daughter in Australia, and she doesn't have to pay to collect. Was it just the postal charge before Brexit?
Bud, Furtheron, Nick, precisely!
Stu, 3x25 dates!
Tasker, not likely!
I'm not sure. Kathy. It is very difficult to get clear information anywhere. I suspect if we're paying from the UK we still may be liable for tax.
I don't know, polly, but I assume so. I am querying the charge though so I hope it will go down.
