Buy me an island

On the radio the other day I was listening to a program about islands. Did you know there are websites from which you can buy islands?

Of course I had to have a look. Most cost several millions but some are more affordable. Like Tancook island, Nova Scotia, at $68,000. But the question I had to ask Husband was: who owns islands to begin with?

He began with the Romans, or rather when the Romans left this country and their place was taken by the Angles and Saxon invaders. These war lords were the ones who began parcelling up bits of land to give to their supporters.

From there we somehow got on to our house and how the land was first owned by some rich industrialist who gave some of it to his daughter, who sold it to someone else and eventually the land became the property of the council who sold it on to property developers. Or something like that.
"And the king owns all the beaches."
"Don't get me started on that."

Central government recently voted against devolving control of, and revenue from, crown property to the Welsh government. Even though it is already similarly devolved in Scotland.

I am no good at dressing myself.

It's been sunny for the last few days and I've worn a thin vest and thin jumper - and though it's been warm in the sun it's been cold in the wind. Fed up of getting chilled today I wore a thick vest and thick jumper and I've been roasting.

The garden is beginning to look very pretty with all the forget-me-nots coming out.

Your island exploration sounds like such an intriguing rabbit hole—there’s something fascinating about the idea of owning your own little piece of the world. The history of land ownership is a winding tale, and it’s interesting how it connects back to modern debates about crown property.

As for dressing yourself, the battle between layers and unpredictable weather is all too familiar! Finding the right balance seems like an impossible challenge some days. At least the garden is offering its own kind of beauty—forget-me-nots always add such a lovely touch to the landscape.

By the way, I’ve just shared a new post—you might enjoy it: www.melodyjacob.com. Hope you find something inspiring there.

Only $68,000 for a Nova Scotia Island? What a deal! Go for it and then you can holiday in Canada for free.

How big is this island? Enough for two people to stand? Accessible by private boat??? Just wondering.

It's hard to figure out what to wear in the spring.

It's all very well owning an island, but think how much it would cost to make it anywhere near liveable. No, I'll pass on the islands, thank you.
Lots of forget-me-nots in my garden, too. I love them - mostly blue, but some pink or white.

If I'm going to buy an island it needs to have a luxury home already built on it and I'm going to need all the amenities possible.

Don’t write much about deserted islands, Liz. Someone will tariff them if word gets round.

It has been such a winter that I had forgotten about forget-me-nots.

Marie Smith - If, by deserted, you mean not inhabited by humans, a couple of such places were indeed thrown into the listing that our felon in the White House put out.
