Am I the only one?

I had a dreadful night's sleep last night, waking roughly once an hour - but I still managed to miss the Northern Lights!

Twitter and Facebook are full of amazing photos but, thankfully, also full of people asking, "Am I the only person who slept through this?"

A friend took this photo across the bay.

I can now say I slept through the Great Storm of 1987 and the Aurora Borealis of 2024.

Did they make an appearance in your area? Did you see them?

Apparently there is a faint chance they may appear tonight so I shall have to get a nap in this afternoon so I can be up and ready. But it's already clouding over . . .

I slept through the '87 storm and although awake last night didn't see a thing, but loads of pics on FB, So I've seen the lights albeit 'second hand!'

Better luck next time. Enjoy your nap and be up and alert when night falls. No chance of seeing them here - too far south.

Yes, it was a spectacular light show all over the northern hemisphere (and New Zealand, I heard). But alas, I can't stay up late enough any more to see the northern lights. And I'd have to leave the city and drive out to darker rural areas to see them. How nice to just step outside the house to see the show! That's how it was when I was a kid in a small prairie town. No light pollution then.

Yet again my comment appeared then vanished. Spam check, maybe?

We went out and looked around. Not a cloud in the sky, but couldn't really detect anything. Probably too much light pollution... or old eyes. Like you, I'm just seeing others' photos on the internet.

We caught a little bit. Cameras are catching colours that people can't see.

We had inside evening plans and missed the whole thing.

Lots of people around here saw it but I was asleep early so I missed it all.
