The book I ordered for myself arrived today. It's called Wild Mind, Living the Writer's Life by Natalie Goldberg. I have previously read and own a copy of Writing Down the Bones, which I love, by the same author.
I sat in the sunshine for a while this afternoon and began to read Wild Mind. In short chapters the author talks about being a writer and how it works, where it comes from, and particularly the battle between Monkey Mind and Wild Mind. Monkey Mind will criticise while Wild Mind is kind. That's the gist of what I've gathered so far. Wild Mind is the big blue sky where anything is possible.
Anyway after some chapters she gives Try This spurs to writing. Timed writing - where you set a time and don't stop to think about writing but just write. I decided to do ten minutes on What Happens Next as although I have the general idea for the novel I think it's lacking much of a plot. The sort of 'I can't wait to see what happens next' plot.
I did it but I'm not sure I'm much closer to an answer so maybe I need to change the title. But I was pleased with myself for sitting down and doing it.
"Tough."
I enjoyed it.
But then he also thought the curry was over-cooked as the lamb had sort of melted down. That was true but all the goodness and taste was there. Just the lumps were missing.

I remember how staggeringly popular her first book was -- you'll have to let us know if this one matches it!
