It turns out the next best thing to a coronation to avoid traffic is shopping early in the morning. Who'd have thought it?
I was in Mumbles by 9 this morning.
The farmers' market was on so I bought more than I intended. Husband grumbled but I reminded him of all the things I didn't buy that I could have done. Anyway as a result we have water buffalo burgers for barbecue tonight. Straight from the farm.
But I haven't mentioned last night and the do. It was lovely in spite of my apprehension beforehand and my 'I don't feel very well perhaps I shouldn't go.'
It was very informal. The Lord Mayor talked about the Mansion House history, the chain of office (weighing 7lbs) and what it's like to be Lord Mayor for a year. Exhausting according to his wife Chris. I've known Chris for years, we're the same age and had children in the same school. She told us about the many engagements - for instance they have two today.
I've done three nights out this week and that'll do for the next year. I couldn't cope with a Lady Mayoress' schedule!

I'm surprised the local dignitaries are in such demand. I wonder if there's catchup from the lockdown period. How does she keep up with the clothes is what I wonder, the right outfits, no flying skirts in the wind, no transparent in the rain, notice I instantly think of bad weather, I wonder why? I agree, the life of public office wouldn't be my choice. I expect her husband only has to remember the robes and chain and he's all set.
It's true -- any politician at any level is constantly on the go practically every evening and weekend attending constituency events -- must be seen out and about by the voters! Not a job I'd want, that's for sure.
I have never eaten Buffalo. Do you find it significantly different than beef? I actually think it has been probably 7-8 years since I ate beef too, however. I am not vegetarian…. I just happen to not eat much meat and the little I do eat is typically chicken or turkey or fish (which as a Catholic isn’t “classified” as meat, even though it is IMO)…. but I do not eat much of any of those either. Probably I average perhaps two meals (usually one chicken and one turkey) a week.
That life would never work for me. I'm lucky if I go out once or twice a year. Every night would make me crazy.
