So . . .

1) What I thought was going to happen didn't happen but what did happen was even worse. It probably helps if you've read Beartown as The Winners is a sequel but I couldn't remember much so it's not vital.

2) I solved the remote problem by changing the batteries again. Husband has a habit of keeping batteries that may have some life in them. When he looked at the ones I'd put in he said, "They're not even matching."
"No, but they're working."

3) It's a porridge for lunch sort of day today. I do love porridge.

That husband comment is Sooooo Y chromosome! They shouldn't be working, heh.

Hmmm - batteries have to match to work? Funny - mine never match and as long as they come out of the box of good batteries, work just fine also.

Oh, no! Your batteries don't match! How strange that the remote works without matching batteries.

Love,
Janie

I hate to admit that I used to save batteries if they weren't totally dead. Thankfully I changed that habit and now throw them away

From a UK website:
That's because the electrical capacity in a used battery is less than a new battery, even if it was only used for a short amount of time.

When old batteries are used with fresh batteries, the used battery loses voltage faster than the new ones which can cause the batteries to explode.

'It is highly advisable to use batteries of the same type, brand, size and expiry date in one appliance,' the advice reads.

'The electrical capacity of different types or batches can differ.

'If such different batteries are used the difference in electrical capacity will grow during usage which could eventually cause one of the batteries to over discharge, leak and even explode.'
