Monopoly bankrupt

Either they have a bigger tablespoon than me or I've made a big mistake.

I'm making beef and ale pie for dinner and, though I was tempted to buy ready-made shortcrust pastry from M&S, I could sense my granny's wrath , so settled on making my own. I know how to make pastry but I think I've mentioned before that I have a phobia about it. I am convinced it's not going to be as nice as my granny's was.

To ensure that nothing could wrong I followed a recipe. It said I needed four tablespoons of water for the amount of flour I was using. Well, I must have needed at least double that. So I am once again waiting for the finished pie with dread and trepidation.

Much later

The pie was fine. Filling very good, pastry edible. Spent the afternoon with GrandSons 1 and 3, and Toby Dog. After a walk I was soundly thrashed in Monopoly by GrandSon3. I would say he will be a building tycoon one day but he'll have to learn not to be generous to his debtors!

Yesterday

Had a renewing walk with Louie.

Such beauty is good for the soul.

I find tablespoons one of the most evasive measurements to get accurately. Also, I have been told that other things effect the flour/moisture ratio. Temperature, humidity, the flour itself so you did well to nut it out yourself rather than blindly stick to the recipe.

Edible is more than that for which many of us non-cooks can hope. Well done!
