Recovering from Covid

My symptoms are very mild, as I said, just like a cold, so yesterday I resolved that today I would pull myself together. I can't just sit around and do nothing all the time. So I got up today and cleaned the lounge.

Probably not my best decision. Especially as I olive-oiled Uncle's old oak tables and used a hard scrubbing brush on the floor to get up the worst of George hairs. Suspect I will flop for the rest of the day.

The carpenter who made Uncle's furniture left his mark on each one.

Lying around has enabled me to speed through a couple of good books though.

The Paris Library
by Janet Skeslien Charles 4*
I read a recommendation of this somewhere so ordered it from my local library. The library in the title is actually the American Library in Paris. Much like Shakespeare and Company, it catered - and still does - for English-speaking readers.  The story skips between pre-war Paris and 1980s Montana. Good flawed characters. I like that.

The Appeal
by Janice Hallett 5*
I thought this was a follow-up to her best-selling The Twyford Code but it turns out this was her first book. And I preferred it to the other as I could more easily picture the characters. It's told through emails, texts and police reports. It was described as a modern Agatha Christie and it certainly has lots of red herrings. I devoured this very quickly.

And it's positive again. And much more positive this time! (I don't know if that's how it works.)

Oh yes, and I have a new obsession though I think it will be short-lived. Online colouring by numbers. It passes the time.

Lovely to have signed furniture. Does that say Cromer, as in the place?

It does, yes.

Both those books sound good! I hope that nasty covid is done with you soon.

It's good to hear your review of The Paris Library as I love historical fiction and have been considering this one to read myself. Will go get it. And as I recall, your garden has always been absolutely lovely. Sorry I didn't have time to get to see you last month but will come again one day. Jane and I are thinking of going to Ireland some day but at the least will take the train to Swansea and take you out for lunch someplace nice.

I hope you're feeling much better. I like the sound of online colouring by numbers.
