If I only had a brain - that worked

On Tuesday evening, driving to Zac's, Mini told me she only had enough petrol left to do 29 miles. Slight panic followed by, 'Oh that's plenty to get me there and home.' (I didn't have my purse with me so couldn't go straight to a garage.)

Wednesday morning, driving to exercise class, Mini says she's down to 22 or possibly 16 miles. She likes to vary it so I don't get complacent.

I contemplate going to Sainsburys before I go to Zac's to cook. But Sainsburys is the other side of town, the other side of Zac's. So I decide to go to slightly more expensive garage on my way to Zac's.

I get there and find signs explaining the new petrol grade, E10. I tell you this because, your honour, I claim it exacerbates my confusion.

I then look at the fuel tanks. And this is where I can blame nobody. This is all down to my brain.

I read Unleaded as Organic.

Look, I was stressed, okay? Organic is always more expensive so I opt for the alternative.

And it's not until I'm driving away that I work out what I've just done. Yes, I've put in what was actually the more expensive petrol.

I tell Sean and Stu this when I get to Zac's. They reassure me that it's fine for my engine, in fact, it's very good for my engine.

At least it wasn't petrol I'd put into a diesel engine. (I only did that once!)

I'm sure Mini was very pleased with your slight confusion.

Our brains do get into ways of thinking. Or maybe not thinking, just reacting! Anyway no harm done.
