Willies and potatoes

On our first day we went for a walk along the bike track just in front of their house. They're living at the very bottom of a foothill in the Italian Alps, and the place is popular with bikers and walkers.

As we walked back GrandSon4, who was telling me about the way the stream worked, said, 'It's for irrigation,' then said, 'Oh, I said it right! I can never remember that word. But I said irrigation.' He was so pleased he rushed off to tell his daddy.

On the other hand I was a little puzzled when GrandDaughter3 and I were talking about animals, the cats I think, and the discussion turned to willies. 'One of the kitties has a willy, Leonardo has a willy and I have a potato,' she said.
'Okay ...' I said, mentally making a note to ask Nuora about potatoes.

One benefit of living in mountain territory is the access to fresh Alpine stream water. Instead of buying water for drinking there is a bottle filling station just the other side of the village.

The house is built in woodland so Younger Son has been busy cutting down dead trees for firewood. He has lots of exciting toys for the job but still needed GrandSon4 and me to move them to the pile.

And then YS had the nerve to complain about the way I was stacking them!

Some mountain streams are fresher than others, I think. As to buying special water for drinking, there is only one place where I did that routinely: Los Angeles, California. I was shocked to discover some years ago that New York City has the best-tasting tap water I had ever drunk, later to learn that it regularly wins awards and that it comes from the nearby Adirondack Mountains. Never having had the pleasure of world travel, I am pleased that you have added a bit to my education on the subject of drinking water availability.
