Reasons for fatigue, part 1

Sometimes I wonder why I'm tired and then I remember: it's life.

Husband and I had a lovely day yesterday taking the two youngest (and soon to leave) grandchildren to Margam Country Park. The only problem is, I always forget how big it is and how far it is between things, like the car park, adventure playground, and fairyland. Especially when it's hot and you're accompanied by a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old. I gave up on going to see the farm trail as, though it was within sight, it was just a step too far for little legs.

The little legs, however, managed a good impression of a runaway train.

Then yesterday evening it was back to the beach for Zac's. It was an absolutely gorgeous evening, with several old faces I haven't seen for a long time, plus high tide.

Tamsin and I were the only paddlers though. We've been talking about going swimming for weeks and last night would have been ideal had I read the tide times properly and realised it would be in when we were there, rather than mid-afternoon as I thought.

Although we were a bit put off by the water which was, as one young Asian girl described it to us, 'Sticky.' I think she meant murky. Probably just the action of the tide on the muddy sand below but it is a bit off-putting, even though the bay has been cleaned up and its water quality is good these days. (Unlike when I was growing up and swimming in it.)

And at the end, four of us women sat around chatting about first kisses, the correct use of prepositions, and hell.

For something different I made carrot cupcakes for Zac's. Husband tested them and declared them to be, 'Not as good as usual.' I didn't have any complaints from the Zac's crew though.

This morning it was exercise class. Jim, our trainer, said as it was warm he'd decided we would do half the exercises standing and the other half sitting. Do not for one moment think that sitting made them easy! I hate sitting exercises that involve using abdominal muscles to hold you legs up, zig zag them, open and close them etc. And the standing ones were bad too as they involved lots of squatting in one form or another.

As I was leaving Jim asked if I were heading for the beach. 'No, I'm going to cook chilli for thirty.'

And this afternoon I recorded my next talk for the radio.

Yes, perhaps there are good reasons for my fatigue.

You haven’t stopped. No wonder you’re tired! It is good you can get in a few cuddles with the departing grandchildren.

Incorrect use of prepositions is hell.

Lots of cuddles, Marie, as many as I can force upon them!

I tell myself, Janie, that as long you know the rules you are free to break them!

Yep, Debra, cream cheese frosting.

Amazing how those little short legs can outrun the adult long legs - but they do!
