I have an inbuilt bias against the books of David Walliams because - well, because he's David Walliams, but yesterday I took GrandSon4 to the library for story time and the book being read was The Boogie Bear by Mr Walliams.
And I have to say that it was quite good. Some bits in there to make it entertaining for the adults, a deep underlying message (colour of fur doesn't matter) obviously, and generally good fun.
I mentioned my bias to the librarian who said he was a bit like a new Roald Dahl in his style. They were celebrating Roald Dahl Day in the library but she'd been unable to find a short story by the Master suitable to read to tiny tots.
I suppose Little Red Riding Hood whipping the pistol out of her knickers would be a bit too realistic these days.

Yes he probably is. I was never that keen on Roald Dahl. Also I thought his name was Ronald Dahl for years... One of my favourites was Enid Blyton. Being banned from libraries never did her any harm. I always thought (aged about 11) that she was banned for using too many exclamation marks and being a crap writer. I never realised it had anything to do with political correctness! (Anyway, wasn't George an embryonic lesbian? I'm sure she was!!)
Oh by the way, talking about books. I went to a website where you can sell old crap. They didn't want most of my books, even some by "name" authors. Well PJ O'Rourke, if he is a "name". So in exasperation I typed in YOUR isbn for This Time Next Year and they offered me 30p! (The going rate.) I'm not going to sell it. But it does mean it's in demand. AND Amazon have one in stock and they never do that with Lulu unless they like you!!! So you should be really flattered, Liz and CARRY ON WRITING THAT OTHER BOOK. COME ON!!!!
Oh, PS I wasn't trying to say your book was crap by the way... I think you know what I mean...
Yes, thank you, Gledwood! Definitely something about George! (Not my George obviously who humps any and everything.)
