I didn't notice a place for comments on your son's writing, so I'll put it here. Excellent post and I would add that I've learned to respond to children's drawings with "Tell me about your picture," because even if you think you know what it is, I am inevitably wrong! lol That way, no one gets embarrassed or humiliated.
I wholeheartedly like the idea of accepting the purple sun and such. I remember the look on a preschooler's face when the "expert" teacher grabbed away the paper on which she had colored the Christmas tree red. At that point I knew I would never send my kids to her preschool.
As a Dad although it is a long time ago now they were little like his he is spot on!! In time he'll get the best reward the one you show here Liz when your children start to inspire you in ways you never expected.
