Blogging about blogging

My reader numbers have fallen recently. I knew they would when I stopped doing Photohunt, ABC and other memes but after remaining steadyish for a while they're down again.

I'm not sure if this is a general trend or just me. I'm so busy I don't manage to visit everyone very often, even those I particularly want to visit, and I guess much blog visiting is reciprocal.

Looking at other blogs it seems the ones that get lots of comments (and I'm assuming from that lots more visitors) are those that deal with one or two specific topics that interest a lot of people, or they're either controversial or emotional. My blog doesn't fit into any of those categories being a mish mash of my thoughts, ramblings and stupidity. (No-one else seems to do such stupid things - or is it that you're just not telling?)

I'm not planning on changing. I was just pondering.

Liz,

My Trafigura posts are keeping my numbers up but till very very small. Quite a few visits are for Trafigura only.

Having a music series also helps keep regulars but enough about me.

I love your blog - mostly read it on G Reader unless I'm going to comment. I really do mean "love it". Your stories seem so simple I wonder how you make a story from it but you do and they're brilliant. I smile, I laugh, I empathise with poor husband, I ... whatever.

However many visitors you get you deserve many more.

I don't get that many comments but I got 1000 hits one day recently!!

It's not as exciting as it sounds though, because when I look at where these people actually go, they're not looking for "Gledwood Vol 2" specifically at all ~ but stuff I have written or pictured has come up on a Google search and they've clickedonme because of that....

I would estimate about 50-80 people a day at most actually come to my blog because of "me"... so I wouldn't take it personally.

You can tell whether people are generally looking for you because they'll either enter at liz-and-harvey.blogspot.com (and not a specific post), or the specific post entered will be today's...

I was thinking of doing some memes. Nothing to do with accruing hits, purely because I find I'm running out of things to blog about!!

Well, I always check in on you - and at Facebook, too. I enjoy all your little quips about your life in general, Zac's, George, the family, et al...keep at it. :D

Fortunately for me my numbers are holding up well but it is clear that the vast majority come for specific items.

Despite holding up my own numbers are far from the top flight!

I love your blog too Liz. Don't eve change! I do have one request. Could you ask George to be even more mischevious?

We've noticed but there seems to be a problem with time lately for everyone. Is it just that we are all so busy now or is it something else?

Bloody hell! My good day is 50 hits and my best ever about 120.

You guys don't know you're born.

Yeah but as I said, it's more to do with Google searches than people actually looking for me. Every now and then Google alter something or other and the number tumbles right down to less than 100 for a few days. Seriously the number of people actually thinking "I will go and see what Gledwood has to say today" is something like 50!

My stats go up and down through stages. I don't worry about it too much!

I like to have a look at my stats every so often, but I've decided that I blog for me and I'm not going to worry about it.

But I wouldn't mind having 100 hits.

I don't seem to get anywhere near the numbers I used to get... many ex-bloggers have moved onto Facebook, Twitter and the like. Also there are so many blogs out there now there is much more choice... plus I don't go to as many as many other people which seems to be a way of boosting readership.

In then end it was always really an outlet for me - I stopped once when I realised I was actually fishing for comments too often and that wasn't the point of it.

When i recently put up a poem about alcoholism that I got off somewhere else my hits went through the roof... at least that was good I hope it had a positive effect on some who found it via my blog

Thank you, calum!

I don't worry about the numbers, gledwood, but am just curious.

THank you, leslie.

George doesn't need any encouragement, jams! And thank you too.

I haven't lost enthusiasm for blogging but lack time, james.

No, it's not worth worrying about, cherrypie.

And, yes, I do it primarily for myself to empty my head, katney, of all the rubbish in there!

I'm sure your writing about your battle helps many people, furtheron.

Can you make that 20 minutes, sonata?!

I think it's general, unless you're Ian Dale or someone. I think there are just so many more blogs out there!
