Saturday Photohunt - Utensils

One of my most important utensils: my potato masher.
Daughter has always loved mashed potato - she's even been known to eat mashed potato sandwich - so my masher is well used. And my favourite potatoes for mashing are the red Desiree, which have a nice waxy texture that makes a firm and scrumptious mash.

Great choice. There's something fun about pulverising spuds.. even if it make alien robots laugh in adverts!

Love that you focused on just one. My masher doesn't get much use outside of the Thanksgiving feast preparations.

Happy weekend.

I still use a potato masher often too. Never heard of Red desiree potatoes so I guess they are a Euro/Welsh? invention.

Happy weekend to you.

I never see Desiree here in Australia. My relatives were potato merchants in Scotland and I know a bit myself. Had bangers and mash for lunch yesterday.

I miss this utensil, I have been using ready to use mash potato powder. Just add hot water and butter :P

I adore potatoes in any shape or form (I expect it's a throwback to my Irish heritage), but mashed potato is my absolute favourite. Especially with lots of butter, which is the reason I have it very rarely...

My mum used to make totally divine mashed potato with butter, milk, salt, pepper and all sorts of special ingredients I've forgotten. I've never tasted any mashed potato so delicious, even in the swishest restaurants.

Long time since I had mashed potatoes - you've inspired me to have some today.

My masher use to belong to my Nanna and then my mum had it and I have certainly had it since the kids were small. I believe it is a 1950s design.
I have tried more modern mashers, but they never work as well and I always end up going back to the old one.
Much love

I love mashed spuds :) Got lazy so these days and use a potato ricer. Makes better mash with less effort and I agree with the choice of using desiree potatoes, yummy.

I love the way you have caught the reflections :-)

Do you know I don't even own a potato masher?! I use an electric mixer, but often we have--gasp--instant potatoes:) The only other person I've ever heard of eating mashed potato sandwiches was Dagwood in the comic strip "Blondie." Have you ever seen that? I don't eat the sandwiches, but I do love mashed potatoes--my favorite comfort food!

Oh, I love mashed potato, too! But I have a ricer, not a masher. Personally, I don't care too much, but OH loathes lumps in his spuds. I do agree - Red Desiree make great mash!
