It's against the law

Just had a delivery from Sainsburys and one of my items wasn't included. The delivery man was very apologetic but he said, 'I'm sorry; it's against the law.'

I'd ordered 2 boxes of paracetamol and 1 of ibuprofen and he was only allowed to deliver 2 boxes altogether. Honestly, do they think I'm going to go to the bother of doing a Sainsburys shop and then kill myself?

There have been times in the past when I was tempted to kill myself to avoid having to go to Sainsburys but it's all right because I'm on medication now.

The law is very foolish sometimes.

I did know about this law, but fancy them curtailing your shopping! As you said, you'd hardly do a weeks shop and then top yourself!

I thought they'd stopped you buying more than 2 boxes at a time in the supermarket but I've done that before now.

I've taken overdoses several times to avoid going to Sainsburys but someone's always rescued me in the nick of time. Damn, that means I'll have to go again at the weekend....

Yup that the rules. At our local Morrisons you can only buy two small packets of paracetamol at a time. Mind you there's nothing to stop you keep going back and buying another two and another two and another two etc., etc., if you were desperate to take an overdose! :(

This is something I've been meaning to research and blog on because there are so many instances of it. It's H&S gone mad.

I really miss Sainsbury's bacon. We don't get decent bacon in North America, even the touted 'Canadian Bacon' is nothing compared to a couple of rashers of bacon to be had in any coffee shop in UK

Expect a call from your local Drug and Alcohol Action Team asking you if you need to talk to someone... :-)

Nah, they probably think you've got a home cooking lab hidden somewhere and you're going to cook up illegal substances...

I am surprised that they brought any ibuprofen, I thought a chemist had to be present when that was bought?

So why didn't they let you know when you ordered ("Sorry, limit 2 per customer" . . . )? Loved your line about offing yourself/shopping!

If you think it is bad there, you should hear the complicated laws here for mail orders.

When I worked in pharmacy, I would have to re-read the law everytime I shipped something, to be sure I was not violating some forgotten provision. So glad to be retired.

Paracetamol is known as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) here and as far as I know, there is no limit to mail order. Oh dear...where did I put that law??!!!

There has been a lot of bad news lately about it here. It is being taken out of combo drugs.

HAHahahahaha!! You don't know whether to laugh or cry, do you? This whole Nanny State thing is utterly ridiculous. So, what? Do they think someone who wants to harm themselves is going to be put off by not being able to buy three packs of painkillers from Sainsbury's (or anywhere else)? No, they'll just walk round and do the circuit, or maybe steal them. After all, what do they care about a little shoplifting if they're going to die anyway. Utterly brainless. All it does is penalise the law-abiding and the sensible.
