The zip on my favourite skirt broke so I took it to the cleaners today to be repaired. (But I didn't tell Auntie Joan that when I visited her afterwards: she would have been shocked at my lack of needlewomanly skills.)
'That'll be £17.20,' the girl in the shop said.
It was only half an hour later, as I was returning to the car after doing some other shopping, that I realised that was more than I paid for the skirt originally.

I wish you had told us this before, I would of happily done it for you for the price of the postage.
What a total rip off, that price is, the hardest part about that is getting the old zip out, after that it is really simple to do. I think they must have plucked that price out of the ether or she saw you coming.
No wonder people throw so much away today.
much love Lia xx
Gosh! Perhaps I need to hone my mending skills and take in extra work! That is a lot of money.
Oh my gosh, that's over $35.00 Cdn - you could have bought a brand new skirt for less!
Well I am sure you will enjoy the skirt so it will be worth it :-)
I've done that... £15 to get my shoes repaired the other week. I think they were only £20 to buy as I normally buy from the factory outlet... it's a long story about skin reactions to certain chemicals so I buy cheap shoes and if they react bung them in a shoe bin for the Salvation Army.
If I then get a pair that are ok and comfortable I'll repair them several times. And I have a wardrobe with several unused pairs I've bought when seen cheap as well...
None of it makes much sense does it?
