Lord Mandy?

I would be the first to admit that I am not very in touch when it comes to politics, so it isn't entirely odd that I should be taken by surprise when the PM presenter on Radio 4 referred to Peter Mandelson as Lord Mandelson.

When did that happen?!

And why?! What has he done to deserve an honour?

Perhaps it is time we got rid of the Honours system altogether.

I would like to be a Lord - I think it would suit me!

I disagree - I think we should keep the honours system but instead of them being awarded by the policticians (oops, I mean Her Majesty) we bloogers should award them. I'm going to be Lord Senex of Pensby. How about it, Lady Liz?
(Peter Mandelson obviously took a leaf out of Lord Archer's book - "A Den of Thieves".)

He was appointed as Secretary of State for Business, and other stuff - BER (enterprise and regulation I think) on my birthday last year.

For him to be a secretary of state he has to be either an MP or a Lord - i.e. have a seat at the Palace of Westminster. Obviously the former needs an election and all that cubbins so simple, Gordon made him a Lord there and then, I think that is what happened.

See we live in a free and open democracy Liz.... didn't you know?

I think Lord Mutley of Dogs would suit you ideally.

It's a nice suggestion, scriptor, but I think I'll wait for the sainthood that is sure to be conferred any day now!

Really, furtheron? That's how it happened? Oh my gosh!
