Sandi Toksvig for Doctor Who!

Amidst all the media brouhaha about Brand and Ross last week I missed hearing the most important news of the week. It took Younger Son to tell me that David Tennant is retiring from his role as Doctor Who.

I had a quiet little weep.

But then, on the News Quiz on radio 4, I heard something that perked me up no end. The panellists had been discussing the fact that it was public pressure that made the BBC act in the lewd phone calls affair. And Sandi Toksvig said she was going to ask Radio 4 listeners to write in to demand 'Sandi Toksvig for Doctor Who!'

Now wouldn't she be perfect? She has just the right quirky eccentricity to carry it off and in the age of a black American president, maybe it's time for a female Doctor.

Write to the BBC if you agree!

the Daily Mail reports that Billie Piper is a strong candidate.

Not wanting to sound ageist, but how about a young slightly kick ass female Dr?

I can't see Billy Piper doing it as she is so strongly identified with Rose.

Unless that mix up in the Tardis where she took on the energy maybe imprints her form of the Dr... Hmmmnnn

Sandi would be good. So would I. I could have all my accidents played out on TV andget paid. Masterful.

So that's who David Tennant is. We've had a couple of DVDs of Dr. Who but it doesn't show on the air here.

The rest of your references are totally without any meaning to me.

They do say that we sometimes need a translation from English to English. Is it any wonder we blunder about when it is a totally different language.

Don't want to sound sexist, I don't think it would work...a female Dr Who!!! Why not just stick to a male...!

Hi Liz:
I think John Barryman may make a good Dr Who. Must confess i havn't watched all the series and Billie piper is being tipped a possibility along with Catherine Tate...Just pondering...Has John Barryman been a Dr Who already?
He seems to appear on many TV programmes Hmm....not sure...
I believe Russell Brand is looking for a new job, as well Jonathon Ross maybe soon!
Knowing the Beeb they would be tactless enough to give either of those two a role on what is, or was, primarily a childrens' programme.
Sandi Toksvig would be ideal but I would hate her to leave the News Quiz.

John Barryman *sigh* such a waste...

Georgia Moffat (daughter of Peter Davison) played Dr. Who's daughter in the last series. (David Tennant dated her for a while afterwards.) Maybe she would be considered if they wanted a woman Doctor. I agree with moggs tigerpaw that Billie Piper is too much identified as Rose.

Oh, lindsay no, it can't be Billie Piper! As moggs says, she is still and will be Rose. Moggs, I wouldn't mind a young female doctor as long as she is kick-ass.

And definitely not Catherine Tate! She was dreadful.

Calum, shall i put you forward? I know a boy who is going out with a girl who used to work on the Doctor Who set. So I have contacts y'know.

it does seem like a different language sometimes, doens't it, katney?

Usually I would agree with you, Anne, but Sandi toksvig ...

I think she could still do the News Quiz, trubes.

cherrypie, i think so.

The doctor's daughter, a natural choice, yes, wendy.

We have just had that episode with Georgia Moffat as The Doctor's daughter here in Canada. I, too, had a wee weep when heard about DT's leaving. I am loving Catherine Tate in this series. And I have no idea any more how I found your blog, but will read on. Hope you had a safe Guy Fawkes!

But how can it be the Dr's daughter?

Yes the character would make a great Dr... But surely that character was set up for her own series at some point.

It was just left begging for a series of it's own wasn't it? They left themselves the option, might as well have finished that one with; "TO BE CONTINUED..."
