Had a brilliant idea yesterday (inspired by Leslie's suggestion of a massage for Mother-in-law): we'd get a voucher for a manicure/pedicure.
My brilliant idea survived all of 9 hours then Sister-in-law said she didn't think M-i-L would use it. Was tempted to say, 'well, tough,' especially as she didn't have any alternatives to suggest. But was a good dutiful Daughter-in-law and went to M&S today and bought a cashmere cardi. She can return it or exchange it or give it away; I don't care.
Was taken aback in M&S on seeing a time-worn ravaged-looking woman staring at me. Realised it was a mirror. It is Halloween soon; I had better start wearing proper middle-aged make-up unless I want to be mistaken for a ghoul and be accused of frightening children.

I'm SO jealous you have Marks and Sparks - I miss it SO much! Every time I come over to the UK, I'll have to stock up.
I know what you mean - they put those mirrors in the most upsetting places. Why don't they cover them decently or hide them from casual glances?
The cardi sounds a good idea.
