The saucepan containing my hankies just boiled dry. More than boiled dry, burned black. Harvey slept in the hall, in a cloud of smoke, oblivious to it. The smoke alarm didn't go off either. Perhaps both were overcome by the fumes.

Forgive my colonial boorishness, but why in gods name would you be boiling hankies? I've been known to bake my socks, but never boiled my hankies...
Hankies in a saucepan? That's different. LOL.
I boil my hankies - as I was taught by my old granny - to kill the germs. And, by golly, there have been plenty of those about. Doesn't everyone?
