Rough Edges is a charity shop for men*, the profits coming to Zac's. Unfortunately we only have two volunteers running it - it's open for just one day a week at present - and they don't like parting with things.
"You could get £200 for this on ebay!" So they squirrel things away in the back room for safekeeping. And keep accepting donations whatever they are. Thus it had reached a point where the aisles were blocked, shelves were piled high, and it was potentially dangerous for customers to come in. So at the trustee meeting last week we decided the shop would have to close because of the risk, and that yesterday would be the last day and would also be a huge clearance sale, a 'make me an offer' sort of sale.
We also hired a skip so we could begin the clearance process, and Sean, Poj, the other trustee, and I were all there to work. We filled one skip by lunchtime so the company came and got it and exchanged it for a bigger empty one.
This is inside the shop, which is comparatively empty when compared to what was supposed to be a workshop. As you can imagine, our volunteers were resistant to the make me an offer idea, and kept checking in the skip to see what we - evil trustees - were throwing out.
I contacted the art gallery and they've said they'll have the tiles for workshops. But no idea what these tools are.
This is a Victorian day cot apparently. I've put this on marketplace.
*Charity shop for anyone who likes DIY, cars, sports, gardening, collecting old tools.

Those mystery tools might be tile cutters.
I wouldn't mind that stone hot water bottle for myself.
I think I should have said tile nippers.
I did think they looked sort of tiley.
If it wasn't so expensive and so likely to break I'd post it to you!
People overestimate the value of junk.
They do completely. The shop's in a fairly impoverished area. People don't have that money.
I hope you've managed to clear it all now. What a mammoth task!
Almost the same thing has happened here there is a woman who is running a thrift shop and she just keeps renting buildings she now has 3 very large buildings full! Her prices are crazy! I saw a set of christmas dishes from Wal-mart that probably sold for 25 to 30.00 she had 75.00 on them!
I bet she has them still.

Putting things aside for eBay seems to defeat the purpose.
Hello Liz,
What a very curious situation. It is incredible that the Trustees have had to step in to sort out the shop and what should have been a great idea has drowned under its own donations. Very odd and rather sad.
It all brings to mind a woman from many years ago...Mrs. Good....the catchphrase was that she did good works uncharitably. We never quite understood why.
That’s a huge job. Quite the task to take on…
The tool looks like one to cute tiles. Charity shops are great but you've got to be willing to sell the stuff you have there.
Okay, i had to google "skip in the uk". Looks like an American "dumpster".
I guess I can understand the decision to close it down, but too bad.
