May the force

Stu commented on the previous post asking me to tell about the Italy trip. Oh, don't worry, there's plenty of that to come! Though this post is more family-oriented than place.

So, we arrived in Italy the day before GrandSon4's 9th birthday. Celebrations on the day included the biggest croissants in the world for breakfast, a meal out, and, of course, cake.

GrandSon4 is obsessed with Star Wars so had a Dark and Light Side themed cake, made by Younger Son.

After our meal (pizza) we visited Vicoforte for an evening ice cream. The church there is famous for its frescoed elliptical dome, the largest in the world. We didn't go inside this trip but here's a photo from a previous visit.

The next day the Italian grandparents came over for another celebration. I was charged with making a cake this time. Continuing the Star Wars theme I went for a light saber design. (He was given a set for his birthday.)

Yes, I know the saber is all out of proportion but you try making a mould out of foil and filling it with melted white chocolate. The writing says, May the force be with you, but it's hidden by GrandDaughter3's liberal scattering of sprinkles, and everything else she could find in the drawer.

The next day it was off to Lake Garda for us all. We'd booked two chalets via Eurocamp, and, happily, they'd worked it out and put us next to each other. More to follow.

It can't be all bad to celebrate with two cakes in Italy.
