In my weakness

I am so frustrated with my weakness, my inability to dig up tree stumps. Knowing I'm going to have to get someone to do that for me.

I'll try again tomorrow. Mutter, mutter.

Meanwhile, did I show you the wild orchids from the tip?

No, not the tip. We haven't seen them there yet. Another walking spot.

Digging up tree stumps is not for the faint-hearted. Why do you think there are so many businesses offering the service?

There are heavy duty machines for digging out tree stumps. Unless you have horses! I don't think it's a solo task.

Tree stumps are not easy to get out. Often you have to put some sort of "root rot" chemical on them to break down the wood and make the job easier. That's my understanding, anyway.

It depends on how big the stump is. I once dug out the remains of a small (four-foot) evergreen tree by sitting on the ground and and using a trowel to reveal each root, then cut through the root with a hacksaw. Eventually I was able to lever the remainder of the root ball up with a spade.

Digging up a tree stump is no small task. I have a tree that was growing in between my forsythia. It's not huge but it's big enough that I can' dig out the roots
