It's amazing how convincing false memories can be.
Getting ready to go out to walk with Daughter I looked for my (driving) glasses. I'd been wearing them to and from exercise class and I distinctly remembered putting the case on my desk when I came in.
But no matter how many times I looked on my desk my glasses were nowhere to be seen. I checked the kitchen, the dining-room - even though I'd not been in there - the lounge, and the bedroom. I looked in my shopping bag and my handbag. I even went back to the car to see if they were in there.
And in between each of the rooms, I returned to the study and my desk, as if my glasses would mysteriously appear. Because I definitely remember putting them there.
I finally found them. In the study, yes, but not on my desk. On the bookcase. I have absolutely no memory of putting them there.
And bear in mind all this happened - me coming home and getting ready to go out again - in less than sixty minutes.
There is very little hope for me I fear.

When putting something down in an unusual place. Say out loud eg Glasses are on the bookshelf. This gives the brain another clue as you may remember hearing it.
I regularly forget everyday things that happened, like, 5 minutes ago.
I think we all do this - too busy with too many things on our minds . . .
I try to do that when I'm thinking.
But remember pointless things!
That's true I'm sure.
You're not alone. I've done this many times.
I suppose you’ve put them there before or intended to this time, so the memory got put in your mind.
