Six Queens

Went to the new Swansea Arena last night with Daughter and Daughter-in-law to see Six, the musical about the six wives of Henry 8th.

The Arena has been open for a few years now but this was my first visit so it was especially exciting. A huge tiered place making me wonder how the people at the very top could see anything. We had tickets reasonably close to the front and right in the centre so our view was very good. And the show was excellent. Almost more like a pop concert with flashy lights, dancing, sparkly costumes and song after song. It was great, full of life and energy.

The Queens each told their story in song as they vied with each other to see which one was the greatest Queen. Then at the end they did the sisterhood thing - why are we arguing amongst ourselves? - and  one of the characters says, near the end, "Not one of us is really great. We're only famous because we are the six wives," but another Queen replied, "Well, Henry's mostly famous because of us!"

A good night out only slightly spoiled by the queues afterwards, first to pay for parking, and then to get out of the car park. Half an hour we sat in a queue. I made the mistake of letting a car pull in front of me. They then let a car pull in front of them, and that car did the same. Not a good system with only one exit.

Next time we'll stay on for a drink and let the queues die down before we leave.

I haven't seen this show but I've heard it's very good too. Glad you had a fun night out, except for the exit queue.

I like the observation that Henry was famous because of them! It sounds like fun.

I saw it with the girls first time round - didn't love it tbh and getting out of the car park was horrendous!

Sounds like a fun night except for the wait to get out.

Sorry about the poorly designed parking area. I suspect there's a good reason it wasn't better designed (immovable objects of long standing?) but it makes it frustrating when one wastes their time in exiting while (for most vehicles, still) pumping pollutants into the air. Good plan to outwait the mass exodus next time. Did you take the mini?

I recall being in a similar queue. Not fun. ☹️
