On the treadmill again

In the gym with Husband this morning. The best/worst thing about going is watching morning television while I'm on the treadmill. It's good because occasionally there's an interesting recipe or feature; it's bad because sometimes there's a scary feature about checking for cancer or old people being scanned. Anyway this morning I have two interesting snippets to share with you. That is, I found them interesting; you may not.

The first was an item about a promising new test for prostate cancer. I noted it because it reminded me of something I'd meant to do, namely, contact a prostate cancer charity and ask for some posters.

There are a number of men who come to bible study whose visits to the toilet seem excessive for the short length of time we're there. (No, they're not drug-users.) I have thought about asking if they've seen their GP lately but that might prove a bit embarrassing so posters are the next best thing. (There, emailed. Also also discovered that March is Prostate Cancer Month.)

The second thing that amused me was that they had a lady on who is a Complaining Expert. I know one or two people who would be good at that. Not me; I am useless at complaining. I should have paid more attention to what she was saying instead of chuckling to myself. Her main hint, that she repeated several times, was 'be kind, be polite.'

Of course all of this is a just a lead-in to me telling you about my excellent statistics at the gym. Again, this won't be of interest to anyone except me, but it'll be good to record it for posterity. When I am old I can look back at it and say, "Ah, when I was young and fit under the apple boughs." As Dylan Thomas might have said.

I was in mixed company recently and noticed the same about some of the men there. Great idea about the posters!

It's amazing what you can learn at the gym!

Good idea about the posters. If men can be persuaded to see a doctor, but at least you're doing your bit, and tactfully, too.
I have no idea what the gym numbers mean, but if they're good, well done!
I'm good at complaining and getting results. So I balance it by also telling people when I think they've done very well by me. Seems fair. Most of us don't get half enough encouragement.

Benign prostate enlargement is the main cause of men of a certain age piddling a lot. Cancer is important but also important not to scare them into not going to the doctor because they don't want to know!

Posters are a good idea.
