It was Margaret!

She wasn't in exercise class this morning again but I asked the two ladies on the door. They said, yes, she worked in Boots and in a school. When I said she'd looked at me blankly the cheekier of the two ladies said, "Ah well, maybe it was you she didn't want to acknowledge."

The other lady reassured me by saying that, because Margaret had looked after her mother until she died last year, she'd always been very focussed, concentrating on the job on hand. "She can have tunnel vision."

I was obviously outside the reach of her tunnel. But I am reassured that I am not completely crazy. (Cheeky lady raised her eyebrows when I said that.)

Anyway it was Mother's Day yesterday here in the UK. It's a good job I know my children love me otherwise the lack of cards on my mantelpiece might disturb me.

Daughter assures me I do have a card and she will give it to me when she sees me next. Younger Son in Italy has the excuse that a) it's not Mother's Day there, and b) he's in Italy and the post is dreadful.

Elder Son hasn't sent me a card for ages because, "It's bad for the environment." However last night he did cook a delicious meal for me and his wife, mother of his children. Husband got to benefit too.
Top left: first course, smoked butternut squash soup with miso mushrooms and sourdough bread.
Centre left: second course, all-day slow-roasted chantenay carrots with carrot and cumin puree. (The black-looking one is not burned but purple.)
Top right: third course, Moroccan rack of lamb with minted pea and spinach puree served with charred leek.
Bottom right: fourth course, mustard lemon pork cheek with spiced parsnip mash and carolina bbq sauce.
Bottom left: final course, chocolate cheesecake.

Can't grumble, can I?

What a beautiful meal. A chef in the family!

I agree with Debra. If I had a choice of a card or a lovely meal I'd definitely choose the meal.

Better than cards! And yes, it wasn't Mothering Sunday here in the US. I wouldn't have known it was in the UK if not for social media.

That is one delicious looking meal. My daughter always does something for Mother's Day, my son may or may not send a text.
