Below par or doolally

I feel sorry for anyone who asks me for directions.

For a start I have to be facing in the right direction. Then I wave my arms about and refer to places no longer in existence. And my idea of distance is non-specific. "Just keep going till you get there."

Particularly this week. I feel tired and I think I'm existing at a below-best level.

On Sunday I made banana cake with ripe bananas I'd brought home from Zac's I needed four but brought five in case one was too bad to use. I chose the four, made the cakes, and . . . couldn't find the fifth.

Still don't know where it went unless I put it in food waste. But I have no recollection of that.

Today I was making chilli and as we couldn't get enough peppers I added carrots and celery (and lentils). I took three carrots out of the fridge, chopped two, couldn't find the third.

I was beginning to think I was seriously doolally.

Then I found the third carrot hiding under half a pepper. I can only assume it's a vegetarian conspiracy. Before the mushroom takes over the world.

It still feels firm so we'll pick it on Friday.

I lost words last night in Zac's too. I began to explain about our prayer cross and I got as far as saying the wood had been washed up on the beach, and I intended to carry on and point out the relevance to us, but I stopped.

It wasn't that I'd lost the words - don't fret - but rather that I'd lost the enthusiasm to explain. I was VERY tired. I wouldn't have gone to bible study except I had all this banana cake to be eaten.
