Another year done.

It might be a personal best. A jigsaw finished in two days.

Accompanied by Malteser-eating and the odd cookie or two.

We had a lovely Christmas Day as usual. Here is the calm before the storm, table set for eleven.
We cooked the turkey, the red cabbage and the roast potatoes; Elder Son produced an absolute plethora of vegetable dishes including cauliflower puree, broccoli and asparagus in lemon butter, baked beetroot, glazed carrots, and I'm sure there was more - oh yes, pureed broccoli, leeks in cheese sauce, and crushed potatoes. As well as mega pigs in blankets. Plus parsnips.

Of course I had to have a bit of everything.

I made a fancy nut roast for Daughter, or to give it its proper title, maple-glazed parsnip, chestnut and feta loaf.

Sadly I had a message this morning to say June, my cousin (second maybe?) and godmother, had died. I'm so glad I managed to call in to see her just before Christmas and didn't leave it until after. She was in a nursing home and the nurse said she hadn't been very well but she was okay while I was there and knew who I was.

Me with my mum and godmothers. June is on the right.

Very little television watched so I'm off now to catch up on Call the Midwife Christmas special.

As kids we did (simpler) jigsaws face DOWN on a big glass board, testing uncle`s theory that the manufacturers only had one cardboard pattern onto which they glued different pictures.
When finished we could look at the glass from below to see what pieces we had got wrong.
Not so much; so we decided uncle was probably right.

Wow, that turkey was in a fight for its life against all those veggie dishes, LOL! Sad news about your cousin June, but so great that you had a visit with her before Christmas.

I'm glad you didn't postpone going to see your cousin.

And despite all the wonderful food I see the Malteser motif still in action.

My condolences. I know it's a relief that you went to see your cousin. How many pieces for the puzzle? Two days is fast. Your table was beautiful. I watched the Call The Midwife Christmas special yesterday afternoon and thought it was quite good. It's one of my favorite shows.

Love,
Janie

Sorry to hear about your godmother. It was good you saw her when you did.

Dinner looks delicious!
