I've started emptying the dining-room in the hopes that it will spur Husband on to decorate. That does of course mean I have to choose colours.
I was tempted to go green - the rest of the house is mostly green - I like it and find it peaceful - but Husband said, "I like the colours there now. Do it a sort of peachy yellow."
I have well and truly gone off the current wallpaper so I won't be doing that. I thought I'd google for inspiration but it seems unless I want to go full Renaissance or jungle scene, most people opt for muted (boring) shades. Which is what I will do.
We have an old fireplace in there, from when the house was built in the early fifties. It's shades of cream and brown so I'm thinking hessian colour.
Dulux have brought out this wonderful little app, a visualiser, that allows you to 'paint' the walls to see if you like it.
Younger Son suggested teal so I duly put it into the visualiser to show him. That's when the problem arose. I couldn't seem to take a photo on the app so had to take a photo with my tablet of my phone and then take a photo of my tablet with my phone. Then I had to find the image on my pc and copy and paste it to YS.

Then the paint looks different in different walls anyway. Darker in the corners etc. My rule of thumb, whatever the color, is to choose something lighter in the can than I want. It darkens as you paint. I hope you end up with something you both like..

Part of my house is muted and boring, but in parts that my son redid, with his help I chose brighter colors and I love them. The entry is a gorgeous bright blue. My bedroom is gray and red. My bathroom is brown with a gold ceiling (it looks great with the travertine tile; previously it was a pale yellow that was the same color as my pee). The other bathroom is gray with black-and-white tile. The extra bedroom is gold. I encourage you to go for it with more exciting colors, if you're in the mood.

Yes, Debra, I say I've chosen the colour I want but once it's on the wall I have been known to change my mind.
I have a red study and some dark greens in small quantities, Janie, but you've inspired me to rethink the downstairs toilet!
