Surely you're too young?

Last night in Zac's before bible study began I announced that next week we would be having a social evening with food and music. Then I said, "It's to celebrate Ric's and my 70th birthdays."

After someone asking asking, "Who's Mair?" and we established that it was me not Mair not one person said, "You can't be seventy!"

I put it down to the fact they were all men. And ****s. (Please fill in your own rude word.)

I mean, I've long passed the stage of expecting people to exclaim, "Surely you're too young to have grandchildren," but a bit of humouring the old woman - especially as she makes the cakes - wouldn't go amiss now and again.

Husband's had a few chest pains over the last couple of days so this morning he finally agreed to call the cardiac professor he is under at the hospital. I overheard him saying, "I had a pain in my chest - but I went to the gym and I was okay."

He is due for another echo cardiogram in February but we're hoping it will be brought forward.

This is straight out of Provincial Lady! They're a tactless bunch. Maybe not cakeworthy

I hope everything is good with your husband. Having pains in that way is scary.

I think you look much younger than 70. You have a very youthful energy about you, at least judging from your photos!

Boud and Merlot, indeed!

He seems okay now, thank you, PipeTobacco.

I think so too, Debra - except when I catch a look at me unexpectedly in bright light. Thank you anyway.

Keeping in mind, that this day and age, you're not even middle aged until mid-50's. So, right now you're still in the middle age group.

But you can't possibly be 70! There! Now it's said, or at least written. Sometimes when people say I don't look 63, I wonder if it's because I look 83.

Love,
Janie
