Came across this unusual-looking fungus today.
Younger Son did some investigating and discovered it's a Sparassis, or cauliflower mushroom. It's edible and used in traditional Chinese medicine and more recently as an anti-inflammatory for Covid-19 patients.
A gentleman who was taking a similar interest in it wondered if it could be a truffle. Now that would have been profitable.
Yesterday on our walk we were accompanied by a limping Elder Son. Along the path he said, "There was a bees' nest over here," indicating a fallen tree. We looked and there it was.
(Both sons are great investigators into their surroundings, and are always lifting logs to see what's underneath.)Younger Son who you may recall kept bees on top of our outside toilet for a while - suggested contacting a bee-keeper as the bees might not survive the winter without help. I've emailed the local branch of the bee-keeping association. Will see what they say.

I hope someone can rescue the bees. Great to find them as your son did!
Your sons are great observers. Nice catch on the bees.
Do truffles even grow above ground? I thought they didn't -- that's why you need a truffle dog or a truffle pig to sniff them out for digging up.
Wild honey. That would be nice.
