Younger Son PhD

I noticed I had several messages from Younger Son including two missed FaceTime calls. I'd been out at GrandSon1's sports day and missed it all.

So I messaged him and he facetimed me back.

He said GrandSon4 had a joke to tell me.

"Knock, knock."
"Who's there?"
"Doctor."
"Doctor Who?"
"Doctor Daddy!"

I laughed politely as you do when a five-year-old tells you a joke then Younger Son explained it.

Today he finally had the email telling him he's passed his doctorate! He's now Younger Son PhD!

It's been eight years since he started during which time his supervisor has left the country, his examiner retired, and university admin has generally messed him about. He's been on the point of quitting so many times and we are so proud not only of his achievement but of his perseverance and determination. (He gets that from Husband; I give up at the first hiccup.)

His dissertation will be entitled something  like, "Utilising behavioural psychology to create pro environmental behaviour in scuba divers." And it's in the fields of conservation psychology and marine biology. (I had to ask him!)

Congratulations all round!! Great news and even more demanding than it sounds. What's his field?

Marine conservation. He and his wife set up a conservation project in the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia for three years and he studied the effects of humans on the coral.
