In some countries it is traditional to open the front door at midnight on January 31st to let the New Year in, and then to open the back door to shoo the Old Year out.
Well, of course I wasn't up at midnight. I was fast asleep by then, although I did rouse at about ten minutes to midnight, think, 'If I stay awake I can wish myself happy new year,' and promptly fell asleep again. But it's all symbolic, right? So when I do it doesn't really matter. That's what I told myself as I opened the front door about half an hour ago to welcome in the new me, the one who is lovely and loveable, and then opened the back door to say goodbye to the me I despise.
Maybe it'll help me believe it longer.
So what else? Oh, yes, we had an early NYE celebration at Elder Son's house with chilli, macaroni cheese, and churros.
Elder Son had never made churros before but decided this was a good time to try his hand.
Son-in-law (on left) volunteered to help. They looked more like frankfurters than I expected!

Mexican food! Getting adventurous over there in Old Blighty, I see!
Next step: sopapillas. Yum!
As one who has good contact with Mexican food - the churros look good! A blank sheet for the new year. A good thought, a good gift.
