Clickbait

I went to the vet and said, 'Please can I have George's weeing and flerming treatments?'

Mrs Malaprop strikes again.

I'm writing, belatedly, my radio piece that needs to be recorded today as well. I began by using an old Bay article and expanding on that but I didn't really know where I was going with it. But then this morning it struck me and, after some research, I have now completed my first draft.

Husband came in, saw me playing sudoku and asked if I'd finished. When I said I had he said, 'Why aren't you recording it then?'

Because I have to let it sit for a short while - preferably overnight but I don't have that luxury today - before I go back and read it again and make any changes before recording. That's why.

In writing it I got quite worked up about the inequalities of the system whereby two men can indulge in a race to get into space while there are fourteen million people living in poverty in the UK alone, and food banks have never been busier.

But it's a Christian radio station so I have to moderate my words.

In between thinking and writing I dithered over the title of my last post. I asked the question on the family whatsapp group: is it 'Three is better than one' or 'Three are better than one'?

We concluded that it should be 'Three is' because three as a number is singular. But I argued that 'strands' is implied and therefore it should be 'Three are'. I am usually quite a stickler about this - Husband and I have numerous arguments - but this time, unusually, either felt okay to me.

We finished watching Clickbait last night. Well, it could have been written by Agatha Christie - had there been internet in her day. No way would we have guessed that.

A worthy discussion about whether "three" is singular or plural in that context! I agree with the end result.

Thank you for making me smile, Mrs. Malaprop. Three is considered plural in American English, but I think you can go either way.

Love,
