So Younger Son and his family are moving to Italy in a few months' time. A lot of reasons but mainly because Nuora wants to be near her family. Brexit, lockdown, and the nasty racist woman in the woods who abused Nuora have all contributed to bringing the plan forward. I knew they intended to move there at some point but hadn't expected it to be just yet.
I don't want them to go and am very sad but I am trying to be supportive and look at the bright side - cheap holidays in Italy.
They've bought a house (unseen) in Italy and they had an offer on their house yesterday so my slight hopes that maybe they'd change their minds have faded. So I was very low this morning. What I needed was a lovely walk!
Sunshine, sea air, and a quick aeroplane impression around the rocks made me feel much better.
Brandy Cove is a tiny, well, cove as you'd expect.
I learned today it has a history of lead and silver mining.
So that's the legitimate history but, as you might have guessed from its name, its location - down a remote valley - also provided an ideal landing place for smugglers bringing in illicit tobacco and alcohol.
And there's more! An old woman known as Moll lived in the caves of Brandy Cove. She was called a witch and blamed whenever bad things happened. Eventually the locals chased her down. She was shot in the leg with a specially manufactured silver bullet but escaped by turning herself into a hare. It is said she still haunts the beach.
More likely it is the ghost of Mamie Stewart whose cries can be heard. A chorus girl who was most likely murdered by her abusive bigamist husband, her body wasn't found in the disused mine shaft until 1961 forty-two years after her disappearance.

Little birds must fly from the nest, unfortunately -- luckily, Italy is relatively close to you via airplane. I know there will be much visiting back-and-forth.
It is sad when your children are far away but, like you said - good vacations on the horizon! You have a beautiful place to walk and think. I like the second 2 stories about Moll and Mamie and hares and ghosts.
It is indeed difficult when loved ones move farther away. I can commiserate with your sadness about that. Living in Italy does, however, sound special and delightful (at least after COVID has passed). Have you been there much? If not, the trips there you are already envisioning may be even more delightful than just the great part of being with family.
You mentioned Brexit..... I of course do hear political “leaders” discuss the situation in “politically influenced” detail. But, if you ever feel up to doing so..... I would love to hear your more “individual citizen” take on what it has been like this far for you.

I know just how you're feeling Liz, I was distraught when my daughter moved to Australia, but keep positive, text messages, zoom, what's app and as you said FREE HOLIDAYS :-)
I can relate to how you feel about your son and family moving out of the country. When our daughter married and moved to the UK, I tried to be happy for her. We visited a few times. She eventually moved back to Canada. Yay!
That's tough, I can completely understand how you feel. I have the feeling our daughters will eventually move away.
The whole Brexit deal sickens me, I never wanted it and didn't vote for it.
Yes, Debra, we raise our babies so they can fly away - boo hoo.
Pam, we are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
PipeTobacco, we've only visited Italy since our Italian connection but we do love it and will enjoy exploring more.
I keep telling myself, Polly, at least it's not Australia. Feel for you.
Hooray, Marie! I can't see that happening in this case but who knows?
If we've done a good job as parents, Joe, they will, so yes, they will! Like you I hate Brexit.
