I'm sorry.
I'm apologising in advance for any upset I cause - but I've got to have this little rant. I usually try to be politically correct but it's difficult sometimes because of my age and the attitudes I grew up with. Sometimes I don't know that I'm being offensive, but I don't mean to be.
An NHS Trust in Brighton is introducing trans-friendly terms. No problems with that - until it descends into silliness. I can cope with birthing-parent instead of mother but I draw the line at chest-feeding.
You have chests and you have breasts. Breast develop on chests. Breasts produce milk; chests don't.
When I was having my babies - crumbs, 40 years ago! - there were campaigns to encourage more mothers to breast-feed. Bottle feeding had increased in popularity and was generally thought to be a good thing, but society was moving back to the idea that, if the mother was able to do it, breast was best. (Which seems most obvious to me.)
I know that's gone off the point of this post but breast still is best. I understand the staff will use whatever language the parents prefer or feel happier with, so it is perhaps the media stirring up a bit of a fuss over nothing.
But I had to get it off my chest. Should that be 'off my breasts'?
P.S. But good excuse for gratuitous photo of Daniel Craig.

Completely bonkers. Formula chest milk is next.
May I just suggest the all-inclusive words "tits" or "boobs"?
giggle, hahaha, snort! Chest-feeding? Really? I worry about people sometimes!
Ha, ha, well said Debra. I’m with you all the way with the PC thing Liz, at times I’m confused or just plain bemused at the stupidity of it all. A more worrying aspect is the PC world these poor children are going to grow up in. Gratuitous photos are good!
I didn’t recognize Daniel. His breasts distracted me.
This elaborate new transgender-friendly vocabulary is just total bullshit. It's all designed to promote the absurd idea that we can all be either male or female, as we so choose, and therefore sex-specific words are no longer appropriate. I just wonder how long all this fashionable nonsense is going to last before common sense finally prevails and consigns it to the rubbish bin.
Only females can get pregnant, give birth, become a mother and breastfeed. End of.
As you, Tasker, bonkers.
Maybe I should write to the Brighton NHS and suggest that, Debra.
Pam, Polly, Nick, as I said i try to be open-minded and understand but this is a step too far.
Marie, it took me ages to choose just the right photo of men breasts. I had to study a lot.
