A lot of eggs

Last week GrandDaughter1 taught me to make macarons. I'm not sure what I did wrong apart from put the egg in at the wrong time, take egg out again with some of the ground almonds, add more almonds just in case, oh and another egg, have the oven too high, and leave them in too long, but mine weren't a great success.

Here are GrandDaughter1's.
See? That's what they are supposed to look like. Mine were pink too honest!

Husband enjoyed them though.

But as they use egg whites I was left with a cup of yolks sitting in the fridge. As they were fairly solitary in there, my food delivery not due until today, I used them to make a quiche for dinner last night. And a mini custard tart with excess pastry.

I am getting the hang of this 'don't waste food' malarkey.

Recipes always recommend baking blind and using baking beans. I didn't have baking beans but figured beach stones would work just as well.

It has been 'snowing' all morning. But it rained first so the ground was wet and the snow isn't sticking, and now it's turned to sleet. All the cold and misery but none of the fun.

An interesting poem by Micky ScottBey Jones read in zoom church this morning. (For which I put on perfume I should add.)

It went: We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds. It was the end bit that made me think. Easy to feel sorry for oneself but not always so easy to think of what we might have done to others, even unintentionally.

I understand now why gunfighters blow on the ends of their pistols when they've fired them. I do the same with my gas lighter. I have tried twirling it when putting in back in the drawer but I need one with more of a trigger thing.

If hubby eats what I bake, then it was a success in my book.

Macarons have the reputation of being one of the most difficult things to successfully bake, so don't feel bad. Clearly granddaughter is a bit of an expert! Hers look so professional!

I've never tried almond macaroons. I'll have to do that! Please thank your granddaughter for me, Liz.

And he doesn't hesitate to tell me if it's not up to scratch, Marie!

I know, Debra, she is good.

I will do, CopCar.

You know, the way cookies (pies, cakes, etc) look is not nearly as important as the way they taste and your macaroons seem to have passed that test.

Ooh I do love a custard tart.

Your Granddaughter is a good cook.

I like that quote and do worry about the wounds I may have caused.

I love macaroons, taste is the important thing. Your quiche and custard tart look scrumptious :-)
