A bit of icing in Hollywood

Earlier in the week 10-year-old GrandDaughter1 made some amazing iced buns. Inspired by her I had a go today and I was pleased with the result.

It's a Paul Hollywood recipe and quite easy to do. He adds jam and cream but that's unnecessary.

When I was a child having an iced bun from the baker's was a treat. We had a baker just up the road from our house. The 'shop' was the front room of a little terraced house, and maybe once a week my grandmother would send me up there for two shillings' worth of cakes. I could choose which ones to buy and I always included an iced bun for me.

I was telling GrandDaughter1 that I used to tear the bread apart and make a sandwich of the icing. Did anyone else do that?

I'm afraid iced buns are not a Canadian delicacy, at least not icing on what appears to be plain white buns? Or is that some kind of sweet dough bread? Here, icing goes on buns that are themselves already sweet, like donuts or cinnamon buns.

P.S. And Paul Hollywood is a hunka hunka burnin' luv. Oh, those steely blue eyes and that silver hair! *swoon*

It is slightly sweetened, Debra, but not very. You see I don't like icing on doughnuts! Too much. And Paul Hollywood, yes, those eyes ...

Simple but tasty, Marie.

That's not something we have here in TX. Is it a sweet bread also?
