It's a George in the bluebells day

On Facebook I commented on a friend's post when she said she was making bread and crumpets. I said that made me fancy making crumpets but I didn't have yeast.

The friend, Kay, very kindly went to Tesco's, to the in-store baker and asked for some fresh yeast, and then she brought it around to my house along with some flour and butter, just in case. It was so incredibly kind of her I had to have a go at making crumpets (even though I'm on a diet).

It wasn't until I began that I remembered I'd got rid of my crumpet rings - 'I'm never going to use those' - in my last clear-out. I had to use pastry cutters. fluted pastry cutters. Definitely not ideal as too deep and too wrinkly.
That said they didn't turn out too badly. And slathered in butter how bad could anything be?

I also made moussaka from a recipe on the internet from a Greek man. I specifically searched for 'easy moussaka' and it was but it was also time-consuming. Husband wasn't wild about it but that was because he saw me putting courgette in it and he doesn't like courgette. It wasn't hugely flavoursome but it grew on me. (Okay, I went back after dinner and had another helping.)
Husband tells me it's Thursday today but that can't be right as it was Thursday yesterday. So today is 'George in the bluebells' day.
Remember that photo of me and George with the girthiest tree in Clyne? Here it is (on the right) in front of Clyne Castle.

And why would a wedding-day-pretty-pink flowering bush suddenly have a dark pink blossom on it? And it was definitely part of the bush. I checked.

Moussaka.... I really like moussaka! I have to admit I never heard of a courgette before, and so I looked it up and to my surprise, it is what is called a “zucchinni” in the U.S. I actually really like zucchini in a bunch of different ways. We sauté them often, and my wife also makes a really wonderful stuffed zucchini with cornmeal, spices and vegetables.

I have never had, nor seen a crumpet before. Even though I had heard of them often. I always imagined they were like a crunchy donut.... but it looks like they are more like a soft pancake? Are they more “sweet” (my presumption) or savory?

Once upon a time, there was a branch of Marks and Spencers in Amsterdam, in the centre. It sold the oddest things… tins of carrots, cheese sandwiches and socks, all imported from Britain.
BUT it also had crumpets and I always staggered back north with as many as I could. Bliss! Your photo makes me think that I should use this eternal lockdown to try to make my own.

They are not sweet, pipeTobacco. Just a very basic bread dough - no batter is a better word. They joy is eating them warm dripping with butter.
I like courgettes, sauted and stuffed, and I'm sure Husband used to but apparently not any more.

Have a go, Sonata!

Mmmm, those crumpets look good! I've never had homemade crumpets, only store-bought. I like them toasted with butter, honey and/or jam. Damn, now I want some.

Crumpets look like pancakes. Are they similar? Obviously, I've never had one. George and the bluebells look wonderful.
