Busy, busy. So much to blog about, so little time. First things first. I have made a huge breakthrough. I have conquered something that has frustrated me all my life.
On Friday I learned how to hula hoop.
Once I have my own hoop I shall get Husband to film me because I know you will want to see me in action. You would not believe how happy and proud it made me the first time (on Friday) when I managed to keep the hoop going for more than one twirl. Note to Self: add hula hoop to Christmas wish list.
It's really good exercise especially for the waist. I avoided it for the first few weeks but not any more. I'm sure that I am probably doing it wrong still: at every station on the circuit the teacher comes over and puts me right. Then the following week when I am trying to remember what she said last time she adds another little tweak to make it harder. She says I should be pleased because it means I am progressing ...
One of the regulars came back this morning after a break of I think six months owing to illness. She is ninety-six. She was paired with a ninety-seven-year-old. The class really is for everybody of all abilities. Some come mainly to chat but if you want to push yourself you can do that too.
And the music is great too, from my era. One of the songs this morning reminded me of a homeless alcoholic whom we used to see in prison when he wasn't on the streets. One of the women who came in with me was called Caroline and every time Cookie saw her he'd start singing, 'Sweet Caroline'. Cookie died after several bouts of pneumonia.
P.S. Just searched Amazon for hula hoops and found you can get sparkly ones! Light-up colour-changing ones!
P.P.S. While I was hula hooping this morning Husband was working in the university gym with Alun Wyn Jones (captain of Wales rugby team).
P.P.P.S. The class is in Mumbles and I have to walk past the house in which I was born and lived for the first twenty-three years of my life. It's been empty for ages. Work was started on it but nothing has happened on it for years. It is so sad to see it like this.

That light up hula hoop is amazing. Used to be able to do it as a child, haven't tried lately - probably wouldn't be able to!
My old family home was bought and renovated. My brother and I approached the owner and he let us look around. It was wonderful to see the old place modernized. I can imagine how you feel about your old house.
Great progress with the exercise!
I never tried hula hooping but my sister was good at it. I remember it being all the rage in the sixties.
It's very sad when a house that used to be well looked after is abandoned and left to rot. Especially when so many people are homeless.
Congrats. Hula hooping is a fine skill to have!
Congrats on your newly-acquired hula hooping skills! Definitely ask Santa for the light-up one with coloured lights. How awesome would that be at NIGHT?
Oh, Liz, how nice that you can keep that hoop up. Congrats! As to "Sweet Caroline": I first recall hearing it in Alamogordo, New Mexico in 1970. Hunky Husband (HH) had been sent to nearby Holloman Air Force Base by Boeing and, after a week or so got lonesome. I took our children to my parents in Kansas City, Missouri, and drove out. The band in the dining room of our motel played that song. (HH delights in reminding me that I invited the band to join us at our table - which the leader did.) It wasn't until decades later that I learned that Caroline Kennedy had inspired the song.
Your birth house is so nice and large and still looks good for all its neglect. My birth home, when I last saw it about 20-25 years ago, had fallen down around itself. It was a wooden house and the wood has probably rejoined the dirt, now.
