8.2% is good odds yes?

So my cholesterol level is 5.2. The doctor assures me that anything below 7 is okay. Further she put my results into a computer that worked out this means I have 8.2% chance of having a heart attack in the next ten years. Which she says is good.

I should have left it at that but no ... I had to google it. According to all sources on google anything above 5 is high. Phooey. But, as the doctor said, you can't take one result on its own. It has to be looked at in conjunction with other factors, such as age, weight, smoker or not etc.

Still I should try to eat less cheese. That is my real downfall. (I don't count ice cream.) I love cheese. A nice mature cheddar. Hard, yellow, a bit crumbly, with bite. I also like parmigiana. And gruyere and wensleydale with cranberries. But most of all I love cheddar. Everything tastes better with cheese. In fact I suggest there is nothing savoury that couldn't be improved with the addition of cheese.

Must stop thinking about cheese. Must stop writing about cheese.

But osteoporosis isn't much fun so cheese is GOOD … and a lot nicer than those disgusting "orange-flavoured" calcium tablets they love prescribing.

My doctor pursuaded me to take statins after my cholesterol reached 7. My risk of heart attack and/or stroke was 12%. My downfall is anything sweet - cake, chocolate, biscuits. I am trying very hard to cut them out. I love Red Leicester cheese, I have a small 2" x 2" cube with an apple for lunch. I would prefer an egg mayo sandwich on white bread, but hey ho, my heart and arteries will thank me!!

Quite right, Sonata! It's no good having a healthy heart if my skeleton is going to collapse.

I love the sweet stuff too, Polly. And egg mayo on white bread, mmmmmm.
