You know that snakes slough off their old skins? How do you pronunce slough?
Is it slou like the town or thou? Or sluff like rough?
But then when I began to cogitate I realised there were even more possibilities.
Is it slow like though? Or slew like through?
It's not wonder I get out of the shower and can't remember if I've washed.

I'm going with sluff like rough, see what you did now I will be thinking about this for a while. If you can't remember washing it's a good excuse for a do over, a good shower is relaxing.
You have to love the English language ...
Newest--- Did I actually take that pill or set to down someplace?
You should pronounce it Sluff
This one has bedeviled me as well! My understanding is that "slough" the verb is pronounced "sluf," whereas "slough" the noun (meaning a swamp) is pronounced "sloo" or "slow."
