What the future holds

It seems I was the only person to be surprised by the course of events but now I've fallen gracefully on my sword I am really looking forward to retiring in 4 or 5 months. It can't come soon enough: I have such great plans for what I will do with the extra time.

I'll become a published best-selling author; I'll throw myself into life in Zac's; I'll keep the house spotlessly clean (okay, maybe that's a step too far even for my imagination); I'll wear George out with huge long walks; I'll have amazing adventures with my grandchildren; I'll pay more regular visits to my elderly relatives. And all this in an extra ten hours a week!

And you and I both know what will happen to my plans. But that's fine because life is good and I enjoy being surprised by it.

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement, Liz! I had big plans, too, when I retired, and no, many of them haven't been accomplished--forget the spotless house:) But it's good to have the time to explore other opportunities and important to want to do so many things. Enjoy!

it is very exciting to retire, even if it's just from 10 hours/week. I'm sure you will accomplish ALL your goals. ;)

Retirement--especially somewhat surprising retirement--opens doors. I had less notice than you. Knowing you, your time will be filled. It is those with no particular interests beyond the job that one would worry about.

Best of luck Liz! I'm looking forward to all the books you're going to write.

Good for you Liz, carry on with your writing, when you have less to do and no pressure You will probably find that you will sleep well too... I surely did.
You'll have more time with your lovely grandchildren....No cleaning though... I have friends that have immaculate houses but to me they're not homes!
Love di..xx

Thanks all. xx

Cleaning the house half as often is twice as efficient.

Mostly leaving it is best. It'll just get dirty again.

I will very much miss you in the job (I anticipate being similarly in touch otherwise so will see and e-see you there)... And I'm specifically concerned about the notices. But I'm delighted for you too xxx

Those are my feelings too, chalky, about cleaning. And, yes, of course we'll keep in touch by other means. xx

Good luck with all your extra time and new plans. But forget the spotlessly clean house. Presentable is all that's needed. There are a hundred things more exciting and satisfying than dusting the picture rails.
