A sad realisation

Having just been ignored myself I could understand why a visitor to Parents and Toddlers described the locals as 'fur coat and no knickers'.

I've heard similar things said often over the years and it seems that there has been no improvement. Groups within the church that are supposed to be open and welcoming tend to be cliquey.

In the case of P&T I'm sure they're all very lovely yummy mummies individually but exclusivity isn't a nice trait.

That is really sad.

I can't help wondering why people/groups who act in that way think they're so special. My feeling is that, in the long run, they are the ones that miss out.

I suppose it's something we all do to a certain extent, keeping to our own peer group, but when someone is obviously new and alone then it would be nice if another someone reached out a bit. And I know that's not easy but it's even been said about the body of the church, that it's unwelcoming.
But I had a nice time playing with the little boy! (I felt it was part of my job ...)

I find most clubs/groups are like that you just have to keep going and become one of them then remember to be extra friendly to the next new person :-)

Actually if you're finding a group rather intimidating or snooty , it might be a good idea to ask yourself whether they're worth the effort .

Sorry , I ended up pushing the publish button too soon .
I wanted to add that I've now got to the age when I'd rather have sensible underwear than a fur coat , anyway .
