Treacle pudding and custard

The trouble with writing for a food website is that I get cravings for the food in question, in this case, steamed treacle pudding. As you see it didn't come out of the basin very successfully but tasted nice especially with lots of custard.

Definitely back on the diet tomorrow.

Treacle pudding and custard was one of my favourites at school. Strangely, I've hardly ever eaten it since. Perhaps because I discovered tiramisu and cheesecake.

Ah ... childhood memories! My Mum often made treacle pud in her pressure cooker, and though I've had treacle pud many times as an adult (or 'syrup sponge pud' as they call it now), it doesn't come close to my mother's version.

Yours looks delicious - and I think it's supposed to be messy!

It was, jams.

Oh, yes, just the thing for a cold winter's evening, sonata.

Go on, you must rediscover its glories, nick.

I wonder if that's because today's are usually sponge puddings whereas this one and maybe the one your Mum made had a denser texture, jay.
