I've found that when images refuse to upload in the correct position, you have to go back to your photoediting software (or paint) and save them as a different kind of file right side up. Then open them again from that file and save them again as a jpeg and upload.
I turned the auto-rotate function off in my camera so it doesn't happen to images taken since I did that.
